With the arrival of a new Personal Income Tax (IRPF) campaign, it is common for many taxpayers to wonder if they are still in time to file their income tax return this year. The answer is yes: you are still within the deadline, but it is important to know the key dates established by the Tax Agency to avoid delays, surcharges or penalties.
At Numo, a specialised agency, we explain everything you need to know to file your income tax return 2024 correctly, on time and with the maximum guarantees.
Calendar of the Income Tax Campaign 2024-2025
The income tax campaign for the 2024 tax year officially began on 3 April 2025 and will run until 30 June 2025. During this period, taxpayers can file their tax return via three methods: online, telephone or in person. Depending on the method chosen, the filing dates vary slightly.
These are the most important dates to keep in mind:
- From 2 April 2025: start of electronic filing through the Tax Agency‘s electronic office.
- From 6 May 2025: opening of the telephone return preparation service, with appointments available from 29 April.
- From 3 June 2025: start of face-to-face service at AEAT offices, by appointment from 29 May.
- 25 June 2025: last day for filing returns with results to be paid by direct debit.
- 30 June 2025: the general deadline for filing the 2024 income tax return is30 June 2025.
Meeting the deadlines not only avoids penalties, but also allows you to better plan both the payment and the possible refund, especially if you opt for direct debit.
What happens if I have to pay?
If the result of your tax return is a direct debit and you wish to pay by direct debit, you must file it before 25 June 2025. After this deadline, direct debit will no longer be possible, and you will have to opt for direct payment at a collaborating financial institution, always within the general deadline of 30 June.
At Numo, we recommend that you avoid leaving your tax return until the last few days. In the final weeks of the tax campaign, there are often bottlenecks in the appointment services and in the electronic office itself, which can make it difficult to process the tax return or lead to errors.
How can I file my income tax return?
There are three channels available to taxpayers to file their Income Tax Return 2024:
1. Internet presentation
This is the most widely used method and has been available since 2 April. Through the Tax Agency’s electronic headquarters, you can access the draft and confirm it, provided that the details are correct. To do this, it is necessary to identify yourself by means of a digital certificate, Cl@ve PIN system or reference number provided by the AEAT.
This system allows for quick and hassle-free handling, but requires the taxpayer to carefully review the tax data and be aware of the applicable deductions.
2. Presentation by telephone
Available from 6 May, this service allows taxpayers to receive direct help in preparing their tax return. Appointments must be made in advance from 29 April. The Tax Agency will contact the taxpayer on the day and in the time slot chosen.
This channel is useful for people with limited tax knowledge or more complex personal situations.
3. Face-to-face service
From 3 June, it is also possible to visit the Tax Agency’s offices in person. To do so, it is compulsory to make an appointment from 29 May. This option is particularly recommended for those who prefer direct attention or who wish to resolve doubts in situ with a Tax Office technician.
In any case, it is essential to review the draft carefully, check that the tax data is up to date and ensure that the deductions for main residence, large family, rent, donations, among others, are correctly applied.
Relevant news for the Renta 2024 income tax campaign
Every year, the income tax campaign incorporates small adjustments or new regulations that may influence the final result of the tax return. On this occasion, some of the main changes include:
- Changes in the exemption limits for certain income from work.
- New cases of deduction for maternity and single-parent families.
- Adjustments to the personal and family minima applicable to certain situations.
- Revision of personal income tax brackets and rates in some autonomous communities.
Given that many of these modifications depend on state and regional regulations, it is advisable to seek the advice of a specialised agency to ensure compliance with all obligations and not to lose any possible tax benefits.
